Bird & Michaud named Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Winners

PHOENIXVILLE – Lainey Michaud and Cory Bird of Phoenixville Area High School were recently named School Winners for the prestigious Wendy’s High School HeismanAward which highlights exceptional high school seniors and their achievements in the classroom, on the field and in the community.

Michaud and Bird will move on for consideration in the next stage of the program where they could be named a State Finalist.

 

“Lainey and Cory are great examples of what it means to be a student-athlete at Phoenixville Area High School. Our school and community are honored to have two of our finest recognized as some of the country’s top student-athletes with the Wendy’s High School Heisman name,” said Matt Gionta, Director of Student Activities and Athletics at Phoenixville Area High School.

For 22 years, Wendy’s, in partnership with the Heisman Memorial Trophy has recognized outstanding students and rewarded their commitment and achievements to academics, athletics and community on a national level.

Cory Bird is a lineman for the football team. Cory and Lainey are both members of the National Honor Society and very involved in Phoenixville’s clubs and community service programs.

Lainey Michaud has started every game for the Phantoms soccer team in goal for the past two seasons. The senior also stars on the softball team. She will continue her softball career at Bryant University next year.

Lainey has been named a Pennsylvania State Finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. Each State Finalist will receive a bronze medal, a Wendy’s High School Heisman State Finalist patch and a $25 Wendy’s gift card. The State Finalists will then continue on to the next round of the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program, where only one male and one female student will advance to be named State Winners.
